March 19th Honokaa Arena
The Hawaii Quarter Horse Youth Association had its annual meeting and officer elections on Saturday, March 19. We had an enthusiastic group of 14 youth members present.
We started the meeting with a discussion about what HQHYA is, how we are connected to HQHA and AQHYA, and what the requirements were to hold an officers position (You must be a member of AQHYA).
We reviewed our fund raising efforts for 2010. We sponsored the Al Dunning clinic, had a booth at the Expo, and redeemed plastic bottles and aluminum cans. We made some money, but lost more, but at least we tried! We came up with some money making ideas for this year. It looks like we can have a cutting, sorting, roping day with the cattle donated! This is an exciting idea and we’ll work on sorting (pun) out the details and try to make it happen. The Pigott and Smith families have volunteered to be in charge of the recycling this year, so let’s all pitch in and recycle and redeem! Thanks to the Carlton family for all of their hard work last year with our recycling. We talked about some other money raising ideas, including having the youth members go out and get sponsors. We’ll work on that letter and try to get that going. Another idea was to make a calendar with youth club pictures. These can be sold to families and friends and also be used as thank you gifts to sponsors. We’ll continue with the used tack and show clothing sales. More help is needed from the youth and their families!
We’ll work on getting connected with the rest of the AQHYA clubs through Facebook. It was decided that we would try to get together every month for some type of activity…we know that this is ambitious with everyone’s busy schedule…but we’ll try. We’re still working on finding a place to have a movie/DVD afternoon. We are also looking for help with our shows (gate, ribbons, and ring crew).
